Evidence
Evidence at a Glance
Available human evidence concerns rheumatoid arthritis. A 2021 guideline addresses Tripterygium Glycosides and Tripterygium wilfordii tablets using clinical research, expert consensus, and experience. A 2022 meta-analysis of 38 trials evaluated Tripterygium glycosides added to conventional DMARDs. The combination findings cannot be attributed to Tripterygium glycosides alone; variation in treatment course and background DMARDs, together with risk of bias, limits certainty.
Clinical Practice Guideline for Tripterygium Glycosides/Tripterygium wilfordii Tablets in the Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis
The guideline summarizes indications, dosage, combined medication, and safety for TGT and TWT in rheumatoid arthritis. It describes oral TGT dosing by body weight in divided doses after meals.

Population: People with rheumatoid arthritis; recommendations address Tripterygium Glycosides Tablets and Tripterygium wilfordii Tablets.
Indication: Rheumatoid arthritis
Intervention: Tripterygium Glycosides Tablets (TGT) and Tripterygium wilfordii Tablets (TWT)
Comparison: Recommendations synthesized clinical research evidence, expert consensus, and experience; not a single controlled comparison.
Reported findings
The guideline summarizes indications, dosage, combined medication, and safety for TGT and TWT in rheumatoid arthritis. It describes oral TGT dosing by body weight in divided doses after meals.
Interpretation
This document summarizes recommendations for TGT and TWT using clinical evidence and consensus; it is not a single controlled trial.
Limitations
The document combines evidence-based recommendations with expert consensus and experience. It addresses both TGT and TWT, and does not establish that the exact 10 mg × 100 commercial package was studied.

Efficacy of tripterygium glycosides (TG) in rheumatoid arthritis as a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD) in combination with conventional DMARDs: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
The review included 38 randomized controlled trials and reported differences in disease activity and inflammatory measures for regimens combining tripterygium glycosides with conventional DMARDs compared with conventional DMARD regimens.

Population: People with rheumatoid arthritis in randomized trials of tripterygium glycosides with conventional DMARDs.
Indication: Rheumatoid arthritis
Intervention: Tripterygium glycosides combined with one conventional DMARD, including methotrexate, leflunomide, or hydroxychloroquine in included studies.
Comparison: Combined TG regimens compared with conventional DMARD monotherapy.
Duration: Varied across included trials.
Reported findings
The review included 38 randomized controlled trials and reported differences in disease activity and inflammatory measures for regimens combining tripterygium glycosides with conventional DMARDs compared with conventional DMARD regimens.
Interpretation
Those findings are specific to the added combination regimens and cannot be assigned to tripterygium glycosides as a stand-alone treatment.
Limitations
The source identifies risk of bias and variation in age, treatment course, and combined DMARD type as factors influencing the findings. The abstract does not report manufacturers, approval numbers, or retail package details.
