phlegm-heat accumulation
Phlegm-Heat Accumulation describes Phlegm that has combined with Heat and become concentrated or obstructive. It may arise when impaired fluid transformation produces Phlegm that stagnates and warms, or when Heat thickens body fluids. Common tendencies include chest oppression, a feeling of fullness, nausea, cough with thick yellow sputum, a bitter taste, thirst, irritability, restless sleep, dizziness, or a sensation of heaviness. The exact signs depend on where the accumulation settles. A red tongue with a yellow greasy coating and a slippery, rapid pulse often support the pattern. TCM interpretation regards both components as active: Phlegm accounts for turbidity and blockage, while Heat contributes colour, agitation, thirst, and a more rapid or inflammatory presentation.
