Modern Research Perspective

Research on Codonopsis pilosula examines polysaccharides, polyacetylenes, phenolic compounds, and other constituents. Cell and animal studies report possible immunomodulatory, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, gastrointestinal, hematologic, and metabolic mechanisms, but extracts and markers vary widely.

Human evidence remains less developed than the preclinical literature. Many studies use combined interventions or nonstandardized materials, so independent clinical benefit, optimal dose, interactions, and long-term safety remain uncertain.

Traditional Function

In traditional Chinese medicine, Pilose Asiabell Root is sweet and neutral. It is used to tonify the Qi, strengthen the Spleen and Lung, nourish the blood, and promote the generation of fluids. Its use is interpreted according to Qi deficiency, weak digestion, fatigue, or insufficient fluids.
