Modern Research Perspective
Licorice Extract contains glycyrrhizin, flavonoids, and other concentrated constituents. Experimental and human studies have explored anti-inflammatory, gastrointestinal, respiratory, and mucosal effects, but concentration and dose vary substantially.
Excessive or prolonged glycyrrhizin exposure may cause hypertension, edema, potassium loss, and drug interactions. Clinical use requires quantitative quality control, dose limits, and monitoring; extract evidence cannot be generalized to raw root.
Traditional Function
Licorice Extract is a concentrated preparation traditionally used to tonify the Spleen and Qi, soothe the Lung, relieve spasm, and harmonize other herbs. Its concentration, glycyrrhizin content, and manufacturing process are part of medicinal identity.
