Modern Research Perspective
Areca peel contains flavonoids, triterpenes, fibers, and other constituents. Experimental research has explored diuretic, gastrointestinal, antioxidant, and metabolic directions, but evidence remains preclinical and preparation-dependent.
Human clinical evidence is sparse. Botanical authentication, areca-related alkaloid contamination, fluid and electrolyte effects, interactions, dose, and long-term safety require further study.
Traditional Function
Areca Peel is traditionally pungent and slightly warm. It is used to promote urination, move qi, reduce edema, and relieve abdominal fullness. Its use is interpreted according to fluid retention and qi stagnation patterns.
