Modern Research Perspective
Hematite consists mainly of iron oxide with variable trace minerals. Experimental research has examined mineral and material properties, but there is little direct evidence for a unique medicinal mechanism or human clinical benefit.
Contaminants, iron exposure, gastrointestinal and renal safety, dose, and interactions require rigorous assessment. Mineral laboratory findings should not be presented as disease treatment efficacy.
Traditional Function
Hematite is traditionally heavy, bitter, and cold. It is used to anchor yang, calm the spirit, clear Liver heat, and stop rebellious qi or bleeding in selected patterns. Mineral source, purity, and processing are essential to identity.
